2006 Anne Maguire Student Journalism Conference

The 2006 Anne Maguire Student Journalism Conference took place at the Royal Irish Academy Dublin during November. The theme of the conference was ‘New National Identities and the Role of the Media’.
This year’s conference was organised jointly by Co-operation Ireland and the British Council.

The audience was addressed by the Former Taoiseach Dr Garret FitzGerald, Columnists Newton Emerson and Eamonn McCann, Metro Eireann Editor Chinedu Onyejelem and award-winning Canadian Journalist Michael Valpy.

Darwin Templeton, Editor of the News Letter, Billy Foley, News Editor at the Irish News and Paul Cullen, Development Correspondent at the Irish Times also gave their personal experiences of working in the field.

Approximately 80 student journalists from universities and colleges across Ireland attended the symposium.
